The Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (Milwaukee)

Celebrating the founding of EMN in November 1986! This spirited collection of 10 musicians recreates the sounds of early 17th century festivals at the Basilica of San Marco in Venice, with separate choirs of sackbuts, cornets and strings, along with theorbo, harpsichord, and organ. Music of Gabrieli, Castello, and Picchi.

At the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist (Milwaukee) in collaboration with the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and the Milwaukee Chapter of the American Guild of Organists

"In an age of McMansions, blockbuster movies and long, long books, one of the most striking things about art of the past is its sense of proportion and balance.... Spiritus Collective... achieved harmonious, delightful equilibrium." (New York Times)

The concert will be preceded in the Cathedral Atrium at 6:30 by a display and silent auction of art created by 28 local artists especially for this celebration, expressing their very individual concepts of “time.” The art includes paintings, photos, weavings, a backward-running clock, and a variety of other artistic expressions.

Participating artists include:

Anne Brooks • Anthony S. Busalacchi • Allison B. Cooke • Bacia Edelman • Sue Fix • Jackie Fritsch • Catherine Gilbertson • Ken Halfmann • Barbara Houser • Jean Hutchison • Jerome Karadis • Gordon Krause • Heather LeFevre • Paul Meissner • Liz Meyer • Josie Osborne • Barry Owens • Laura V. Page • Mary Phillips • Denis Sargent • Dan Schuchart • Jan Serr • Norman Sheppard • Ingrid Swenson • Nicole Tappa • Arthur Thrall • Leon Travanti.
