Guillaume de Machaut was a medieval French poet and composer, and is generally regarded as the greatest and most important composer and poet of the 14th century. Scott will examine one particular song by Machaut, from discovery to performance, and exploring all the issues and possibilities.
Scott Metcalfe is the director of Blue Heron, and winner of the 2018 Gramophone Classical Music Award for Early Music. From 2010-19 he was music director of New York’s Green Mountain Project, and has guest directed TENET, the Handel & Haydn Society, and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra. Scott also enjoys a career as a baroque violinist. He has taught at Boston University, Harvard University, and Oberlin Conservatory, and is currently a visiting member of the faculty at the New England Conservatory.
